Urban Uco Malbec-Tempranillo
Wines from O. Fournier rarely disappoint, and their economical Urban line certainly has some quality wines to offer while their higher end Crux blends are some of my special occasion favorites. The Urban line, in this case Urban Uco (named after the Uco Valley of Mendoza) includes great values and a good variety of, well, varietals. The Malbec-Tempranillo blend (50/50%) was a rich, full treat. Its intense dark fruit flavors of the two grapes rounded each other out and provided a smooth, fruit-filled taste. The wine spent 3 months in French oak, which adds subtle flavors and balances the young wine. Despite higher yields than many of the boutique wineries of Mendoza, O. Fournier does an amazing job of keeping quality high and with the Uco line...prices low.
