mapema tempranillo

I heard about mapema winery in Mendoza from some fellow wine-lovers who had been wanting to try it. We shared a bottle of the mapema Malbec and I remember thinking then that it didn't merit the price but I thought I'd give their Tempranillo another try.

This bottle costs a few more dollars than I would typically spend, but I wanted to mini-splurge for a special occasion. Unfortunately, the mapema was universally disliked by my group of tasters. The tannins were the only initial taste, and the finish was equally sharp and disappointing. The wine is not well balanced, soft, or rounded, so needless to say none of my guests filled up on a second glass.
